Kung Fu in MMA: Art of War MMA

Sanda, the most practical form of combative Kung Fu, finally has a place to flourish and shine in the MMA community. The Art of War Fighting Championships, the largest MMA promotion in China, just had its 14th event not too long ago. Among the up and coming Chinese stars using Sanda as their striking art, you also have foreign fighters such as Rolles Gracie of the legendary Gracie family.

The rules are a little different from the UFC rules popular in the US, but more resembles that of the now defunct Pride FC as head kicks and foot stomps to a downed opponent is allowed. This drastically evens the playing field for the stand up strikers as now they have more options of attacking a grounded opponent.

This kind of MMA setting forces the Sanda experts to cross train in BJJ and wrestling, as well as polishing the existing Sanda techniques so that it can better suit a minimal rules, all dimension fighting environment.
